Kiwi are
endangered birds. There aren’t many of them. They are brown and white. Kiwi eat
worms. They have short wings and they can’t fly.
By Lucy.
THE KIWI
A kiwi has a long beak and claws. When they come
out, day or night? Night. What kiwis eat – they eat worms. Have you seen one? I
have seen one at Orana Park zoo and I got to pick it up. It felt soft.
Once there was a kiwi called Kiwi. His habitat was a
burrow!!! In his spare time he liked to play with his and his wife’s babies. He
eats worms. His friends are… the tui, his wife, their babies and the tuatara
family.
The babies like to play tag with a ball. The adults like
to cool down in ocean. Every adult animal helps to cook the worms into
pancakes. The tuatara family went really deep. “Oh no” said the tuis. “Where
are the tuatara family?” The tuatara family were really deep in the ocean.
Everyone pulled and pulled. “Hi” they said. “Hi” said everyone. “Are you OK?”
asked Kiwi. “Yes” said the tuatara family.

lizard can you help me?” “No, because your special species can’t fly. You don’t
have wings”. “OK”.

One day a
Kiwi went for a hunt for berries. He could not find any. “Oh no” said Kiwi,
“where can I find some berries?”… Then he nearly got eaten by a Hawk. But he
ate a bug because the Hawk was his friend. “Sorry Kiwi I was trying to find
some tea” said Hawk. “That’s fine” said Kiwi. So, on his hunt again. He saw his
friend the Takahe. “Hi” said Takahe. “Hi” said Kiwi. “Where are you going?”
said Takahe. “I am trying to find some tea” said Kiwi.” “Can I come?” “OK” said Kiwi. Then he came to
another animal. “Where are you going?”s said the Wise Owl. “We are trying to
find some food”. “Well, be careful” said the Wise Owl. “Why?” said Kiwi. “Because
Kiwi and Takahe are in danger of becoming extinct”.
They were
very, very careful and they did not have any trouble. They both said “We did
not have any trouble”. “Well sometimes
you don’t have any trouble if you be very, very careful”. “We did.” “Well, now
you see that you have to be really careful.” They had lots of food for
everyone.
